Sprint Nextel and SoftBank pledged to a Republican congressional leader that they would not buy any equipment from China's Huawei Technologies once the Japanese telecom takes over Sprint. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., the chairman of the House intelligence committee, said he "was assured they would not integrate Huawei in to the Sprint network and would take mitigation efforts to replace Huawei equipment in the Clearwire network." Lawmakers are concerned that Huawei, which has close ties with the Chinese government, would use its gear for espionage.
