It's been more than 30 years since the U.S. Open has taken place at Merion Golf Course, but come June 13 one of the sport's biggest events of the year will tee off again at a small course in Ardmore, Penn. USGA's championship director Hank Thompson has been working at Merion Golf Club since September 2011 establishing security; leasing land from nearby homeowners and a local college to set up merchandising, corporate and media tents; and figuring out where everyone is going to park. Richard "Rick" Ill will also play an important role in preparing the course for the international spotlight by doing everything from coordinating 5,000 volunteers to making sure Tiger Woods' golf balls arrive on time.
