The proliferation of Internet-enabled smartphones and tablets and the broadband networks to support them is creating a groundswell of activity in the Web-video sector, with subscription fees expected to drop as over-the-top video reaches a wider audience, a report says. ABI Research says OTT video grew at an annualized rate of 60% last year and is expected to generate revenues in excess of $20 billion by 2015.
