The Encrypted Media Extensions plan to add digital rights management software to the HTML5 standard would be "disastrous" and would fly in the face of the standard's core principles, warns a coalition of Web-freedom campaigners. "Ratifying EME would be an abdication of responsibility; it would harm interoperability, enshrine nonfree software in W3C standards and perpetuate oppressive business models," the coalition warns in a letter to the W3C.
