Officials in a Pennsylvania school district say they have not fully enforced parts of its wellness policy adopted in 2007, particularly one that bans food from being served in classrooms. Now, as schools prepare for Halloween celebrations, officials say they are revisiting the full intent of the policy to better safeguard students who suffer from severe food allergies.
Kellogg is highlighting its 2012 health and wellness efforts, including Facts Up Front product labels, marketing campaigns promoting physical activity and the launch of improved products. "Enhancements such as adding fiber, whole grains or protein to a product are good for our consumers and good for our business, as demonstrated by increased sales," President and CEO John Bryant said.
Weis Markets has released its first corporate-sustainability report, showing a 15.5% cut in carbon emissions over five years, reduced electricity and landfill usage and the opening of a store with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. "We have always been a responsible and earth-conscious company," President and CEO David Hepfinger said. "But over the past five years, we have significantly upgraded our sustainability program."
