An analysis of data from the Women's Health Initiative found that postmenopausal women who took estrogen and progestin were more likely to develop breast cancer. The risk of breast cancer was about three times higher among women who started taking the hormones within months of menopause compared with those who waited 10 years. The study appeared in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
