Withheld income taxes in the first six months of fiscal 2013, which began Oct. 1, are 9.2% higher than they were during the same period of fiscal 2012, which suggests that there are more people working, that people are working more hours or that pay has increased, Caroline Baum writes. The data suggest that the relatively weak March jobs report released by the Labor Department didn't reflect the true strength of the job market, Baum writes.
