U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services began accepting H-1B visa applications for skilled foreign workers this week, with analysts saying the agency can expect its highest level of demand since 2008, when it received roughly 163,000 petitions in the first five days. According to estimates from FCi Federal, a provider of technology and services to the U.S. government, the USCIS took in 60,000 applications on the first filing day, and then the number of petitions dropped. Experts predict the government will reach its cap by the end of the day today, after which it will likely shift to a lottery.
