While 79% of large and midsize employers use incentives such as lower health insurance premiums to encourage employees to adopt healthier behaviors, more are using penalties such as surcharges for those who don't take steps to improve their health, according to an Aon Hewitt survey. "Employers are feeling the need to intensify their efforts to create an environment where people feel they are responsible for their own health," said Jim Winkler of Aon Hewitt.
