Apple extended its lead as the top smartphone vendor in the U.S., and while Samsung Electronics held its own in second place, HTC, Motorola Mobility and LG Electronics all lost market share in the quarter ended in February, according to the comScore research firm. The iPhone gained 3.9 percentage points, reaching 39% of the market, compared with 21% for Samsung. On the software side, Android's lead narrowed by almost 6 points, although it retained a 52% to 39% edge over Apple's iOS platform.
