AT&T enjoyed record growth in its U-verse Internet operation in the first quarter, adding 731,000 subscribers as well as 232,000 video subscribers, marking the TV service's best performance in more than two years, the carrier said Tuesday. AT&T ended the period with 8.4 million U-verse broadband and 4.8 million video customers. The telecom has an aggressive three-year capital spending program to bring its U-verse base to 33 million homes by 2015. Corporate earnings rose 3.2%, beating analysts' estimates. Wireless revenue grew 3.4% as AT&T added 296,000 contract customers and 365,000 postpaid tablets to its network, as well as a record 6 million smartphone buyers.
