A letter recently published in the Indianapolis Star contained inaccurate statements about the U.S. wind power industry, writes Elizabeth Salerno, director of industry data and analysis at the American Wind Energy Association. Private-sector spending on wind power topped $25 billion in 2012 alone, and the industry accounted for over 80,000 U.S. jobs, Salerno states. Wind power is now one of the cheapest forms of power, and long-term wind-power purchase agreements allow utilities to protect their customers from fluctuations in the fossil-fuel markets, Salerno notes.
