Mobile-security firm Lookout has warned of Russian-based Android malware known as BadNews that has infected up to 9 million devices, mainly in Eastern Europe, and it terms the virus "a significant development in the evolution of mobile malware." The malware was found in dozens of apps on Google Play, although Google said it has removed the infected software and suspended the developers' accounts. "This is one of the first times that we've seen a malicious distribution network clearly posing as an ad network," Lookout said in a blog post.
