A Michigan Senate committee is expected to tackle legislation that would include skin, respiratory tract and other types of cancer under workers' compensation coverage for firefighters. Expanding such coverage would likely be costly for local governments, said Pete Kuhnmuench of the Insurance Institute of Michigan. "It's going to include a number of other expenses under the work comp system that quite frankly really don't belong there ... wage replacement and other things," Kuhnmuench says.
