Travelers flying with Malaysia Airlines between Australia and Kuala Lumpur will now do so on A330-300 aircraft. "For guests travelling long-haul from Australia and onwards to London and Paris, they will essentially be travelling on the new A330s out of Australia and connecting to the new A380 at Kuala Lumpur all the way to Europe," an airline representative said.
Samoa Air, which has become the first airline to charge according to a passenger's body weight, says the move is the "concept of the future." According to content on its website, "Booking a flight with us is as easy as inputting your approximate weight into our online booking engine (don't worry, we will weigh you again at the airport) -– you then can prepay your 'guesstimate,' guaranteeing you that much weight is allocated to you for that flight ... with Samoa Air, you are the master of how much (or little!) your air ticket will cost."
Officials delayed the opening of Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, which was set to debut on 1 April. According to The Peninsula newspaper, Abdulaziz Al Noaimi, who heads up the airport's steering committee, said the delay was necessary because the hub did not meet new Civil Defense Department safety and security regulations.
Southwest hopes to have dual modems on all of its 737 jets in the coming months. The carrier will also add more Ku-band transponders on each of the satellites it utilizes in order to boost bandwidth and overall connectivity capacity.
Thomson Airways, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic will inspect the Dreamliner 787 at Heathrow Airport in London. The carriers have placed orders for the 787. Boeing is taking the Dreamliner on a world tour, and plans to visit three airports in the U.K.
