WestCoast Children's Clinic in California experienced a data breach when it faxed records to an incorrect fax number April 16. The breach involved only one patient, who was notified, and compromised data included the patient's name, birth date and test results. After examining the procedures that cover the incident, the clinic found that the employee involved failed to follow the prescribed practice that would have prevented such an event from happening, said Kelley Gin, the clinic's director of clinical services and privacy officer.
