U.K.'s Channel 4 television has developed an application with an Oxford neuroscientist to help its youth audience understand the benefits of a good night's sleep. The Zeds app instructs users to take their iPhones to bed with them, where sleep patterns are recorded and the results incorporated into games that vary the gameplay according to the pattern. "People underestimate teenagers, but if you explain to them why they need more sleep, many will respond -- but if you force them, they won't do it," says Russell Foster, Oxford professor of circadian neuroscience.
