MDA Weather Services said corn plantings will be delayed by cold and wet weather in the Midwest, while dry weather in the southwestern Plains will affect wheat crops. "Temperatures will remain cold and it definitely will keep soil temperatures low, so plantings will remain behind normal," said Don Keeney, an MDA meteorologist. However, Keeney said warmer weather in mid-April will allow corn farmers to increase plantings.
