ConAgra took advantage of lower commodity costs by increasing ad spending 33% in the company's fiscal third quarter ended Feb. 24. Ad spending rose $27 million in the quarter, although sales volume declined 3% due to disappointing sales of Banquet frozen foods and Orville Redenbacher popcorn, among other factors. Marie Callender's, Pam, Reddi-Wip and other brands were beneficiaries of the increased marketing spend.
