To meet growing consumer Wi-Fi demands, Congress must increase the availability of unlicensed spectrum and take down "unnecessary regulatory barriers" blocking current spectrum from being used more efficiently, according to prepared testimony from Comcast's Tom Nagle for a Senate panel hearing. Comcast, following last week's bombings in Boston, opened its Wi-Fi network to nonsubscribers to alleviate the pressure on commercial mobile wireless networks, reinforcing the need for more Wi-Fi capacity, Nagle said.
