Shelton, Conn., has become the first New England city to buy an entire fleet of buses that run on propane autogas. Mayor Mark Lauretti recently approved a proposal to buy 60 autogas-fueled buses because of the potential savings the project will generate. "I encourage others who operate fleet vehicles to follow our lead. Besides the cost savings, it's better for the environment. People complain about air pollution, and every time these diesel school buses stop, our kids are there breathing it in. This solves that problem. It's a win-win across the board. It helps the environment. It helps our bottom line," he said.
