The health data of an estimated 5,370 patients in North Carolina was compromised as the result of a burglary at the main office of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell in Burlington. Three laptops containing unencrypted e-mails with the protected information of a small number of patients were stolen. The burglars also had access to paper records, but hospice officials do not know if the burglars looked at them.
