The U.S. spent between $157 billion and $215 billion in 2010 to care for patients with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine. Researchers said the cost of dementia care outpaces that of cardiovascular disease or cancer management. Per-patient costs ranged from $41,700 to $56,300, depending on the method used to calculate costs.
