Interviews with almost 100,000 California residents did not find a strong link between being overweight or not and living within 1 mile of a grocery store, but living between 1.5 and 3 miles from a large supermarket was linked to consuming fewer caloric soft drinks. The study in the journal Preventing Chronic Disease found the number of fast-food restaurants within 3 miles of a person's home was linked to eating more fast food and less produce.
