More than half of U.S. workers plan to delay retirement in order to maintain their employer-provided health benefits, although 19% of retirees have actually done so, according to an Employee Benefit Research Institute report. More than one-fourth of employees said they would retire earlier if they were guaranteed health coverage in retirement, compared with 15% who said the same in 2003, according to the study. The Affordable Care Act, however, may affect those numbers with health coverage available through insurance exchanges, said EBRI's Paul Fronstin.
