The Energy Department announced it will put about $23.5 million toward five new projects meant to help American manufacturers reduce energy use and costs, including developing a flexible energy-efficient tool to form sheet metal, a tool that will combine performance metrics and models with real-time plant data and a new room-temperature manufacturing process to replace hot stamping for lightweight steels.
