A group of health care experts is urging the U.S. government to adopt cost-conscious changes to public and private insurance. Small, consensus-driven policy reforms could produce $1 trillion in savings over 20 years and should be pursued instead of waiting for a major deal to cut the deficit, the experts said in a Brookings Institution study. The proposals include a shift away from fee-for-service care.
