Data showed 3.4% of patients in ICU rooms with copper surfaces developed hospital-acquired infections, compared with 8.1% of those in traditional ICU rooms, according to a study in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. Lead author Dr. Cassandra Salgada said routinely using copper surfaces in ICU rooms could reduce the risk of HAIs and multidrug resistant bacteria.
