An openly gay lawmaker's personal plea on the floor of the Montana House helped advance a measure that would repeal a state law that attempts to criminalize gay sex. The law was deemed unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court in 1997. "[U]nder this law, I am considered a felon. I am not your equal," Rep. Bryce Bennett, a Democrat, said. The governor has not said whether he would sign the bill into law.
