The House of Representatives plans to take up immigration overhaul piece by piece, according to Rep. Robert Goodlatte, R-Va., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. An agricultural worker program and workplace status checks would be tackled, but the House could exclude a pathway to citizenship for current residents. The idea of excluding a citizenship path was panned by Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and John McCain, R-Ariz., two authors of the Senate immigration bill.
