Referrals can be an effective way to find a new job, business etiquette professional Pamela Eyring writes in this commentary. Job seekers should use LinkedIn and other social media to find employees inside institutions where they want to work and send them an e-mail, asking if that person knows enough about their work to refer them, she suggests. "That way the person has an 'out' if they're uncomfortable giving you a referral and you can feel assured those who say 'yes' will write a positive letter and give you a strong endorsement," Eyring notes.
