Proponents of a standard covering terabit Ethernet will have to wait a bit longer to see their dream become a reality in light of the recent decision by the IEEE to focus its efforts on 400 Gbps. The IEEE's 400 Gbps working group will begin meeting in May for what is expected to be a long slog to a workable protocol. Industry experts, including Dell's John D'Ambrosia, say the decision to hold off on terabit Ethernet is simply a matter of cost.
