Imported beef products from the U.K., Northern Ireland, Poland, Iceland and Ireland will be subject to more "species testing," in the form of screenings and DNA analysis by the USDA. The move is spurred by investigations of horse meat that has been put into circulation as beef in processed and fresh products in those countries. In addition, species testing will be carried out on lots being inspected for Shiga toxin-producing E. coli pathogens.
