On trips to their parents' homes, two Web developers were startled to notice banner ads on normally pristine sites such as Apple.com, Bing.com and Target.com. A little digging revealed that both homes received their internet service from CMA Communications, a rural provider, which was apparently injecting ads directly into the code of the pages it served, this article notes. "ISP-sanctioned ad injection directly into webpages -- if that's what this is -- has a long history, but it has been fairly rare to find it happening on pay connections in the US," notes Nate Anderson.
