An explosion of cloud-based game downloads will make the mobile device the dominant gaming platform soon, according to a Juniper Research study. The company predicts 64.1 billion game-application downloads to smartphones and tablets by 2017, more than three times the number in 2012. "[W]hile Juniper is not expecting smartphones and tablets to kill off dedicated portable gaming devices, it says there's no doubt consumer mobiles are challenging and eroding the latter market," Natasha Lomas writes.
