Kansas lawmakers have declined to schedule hearings on bills that would expand dental hygienists' scope of practice to allow specially trained hygienists to provide services including nonsurgical extractions of loose, diseased teeth. Proponents of the bills say they would expand access to care in underserved areas, but the state dentists' association says coverage in rural parts of the state is 93.4% to 99.4%, according to state Medicaid figures.
