A lawsuit against a $1.1 billion project by the Tennessee Valley Authority to retrofit a coal-fired power plant to cut pollution was filed recently by environmental groups. The suit contends "TVA violated the National Environmental Policy Act by not completing a public environmental impact statement before deciding to retrofit Gallatin." The TVA says the project is in compliance and that there are no significant environmental implications because "air quality controls will result in significantly lower emissions and further improvement in Tennessee Valley air quality, which is currently cleaner than it has been in decades."
