The existing castle-themed hotel at Legoland California in Carlsbad will be getting 11 new rooms inspired by "Lego Friends" characters, to match the theme park's Heartlake City land. Meanwhile, the park is progressing with its plans to build another hotel, which is expected to open in 2018 and will offer 250 rooms, a restaurant and a gift shop.
Legoland California in Carlsbad opened the theme park company's first U.S. hotel over the weekend. The 250-room Legoland Hotel features adventure-, kingdom- and pirate-themed rooms, a pool and a buffet-style restaurant. "We've doubled in size since we opened the park 14 years ago, so we're indeed a resort property now, which means you really need more than one day to experience everything," said Peter Ronchitti, Legoland's general manager.
The scheduled launch date of the Legoland California Resort's Legoland Hotel in Carlsbad, Calif., has been advanced to April 5. The Lego-themed, 250-room hotel will feature about 3,422 Lego models made up of some 3 million Lego bricks throughout the property as well as interactive activities for families.
As Legoland California celebrates 10 years in Carlsbad, the owner of the theme park is planning to propose building a hotel. The 254 rooms as well as the hotel's grounds and attractions would all be based on Legos and would cater to families with young children. The hotel, which would also have a restaurant, pool, nightclub and gift shop, is part of Legoland's effort to create an entertainment package.
The owners of Legoland California are seeking permission from planners in Carlsbad, Calif., to build a 250-room Lego-themed hotel on part of their parking lot. The recently opened Sheraton Carlsbad resort and another independently operated hotel that is in the works are just outside the Legoland gate, and owner Merlin Entertainment Group says another Legoland amusement park in Europe is having great success with its own hotel.
