Los Angeles law enforcement agencies have taken another look at their approach to "swatting," which involves celebrity homes being targeted for false 9-1-1 calls to elicit an emergency response. The Los Angeles Police Department has said it will no longer issue news releases about the incidents, while the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it will consider the events "on a case by case basis." The LAPD said the policy was changed to protect the privacy of residents and because officials believe publicity encourages copycats.
