A Danish study showed that high-school completion rates were 11%, about 10%, and 5.5% lower than the general population among survivors of childhood meningococcal meningitis, pneumococcal meningitis, and Haemophilus influenzae meningitis, respectively. Meningitis survivors also were less likely to be economically self-sufficient as adults compared with those who did not get the disease. The findings were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
