A program called Go Girlz is providing middle-school girls with college-age mentors from the University of Utah as a way to address some of the reasons why students from disadvantaged backgrounds don't go to college. The mentors help teach the younger students leadership and networking skills, encourage them to respect others and do well in school. "We wanted to find a way to address the reasons why girls weren't reaching higher education," said Jenny Netto of the university's Women's Resource Center.
