The Hattiesburg Public School District in Mississippi recently was recognized with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Gold Award of Distinction for its efforts to serve healthy food and encourage fitness. "Everything we serve is healthy -- the vegetables, the fresh fruits, the 1% milk, the whole wheat rolls," Hattiesburg High's child nutrition manager Antoinette Twillie said. "Seems like we're serving a lot of items on the menu that the kids don’t have at home."
