Mobile commerce spending increased 20% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2013, making up 17.4% of all e-commerce, according to IBM’s Online Retail Index. Tablets accounted for much of the gain, with mobile traffic on the devices increasing 80% from a year earlier. "This trend reflects marketers' ability to create a positive customer experience for consumers shopping on their iPads and Kindles, by designing for the finger and making it easier for customers to browse via their mobile devices," the report notes.
