Although data suggest 70% of Americans will need long-term care sometime after age 65, data from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research suggest many people underestimate that need, and two-thirds of Americans 40 and older have not made the necessary preparations. The majority of respondents said they expect to be cared for by family members, and many are under the mistaken assumption that Medicare will be able to shoulder their LTC needs.
