A North Carolina high school is considering altering its lunch periods to require freshmen and sophomores to participate in a program called SMART lunch and allow upperclassmen to leave campus for lunch. Under the Students Maximizing Achievement Relationships Time (SMART) program, all students receive the same 55-minute lunch period, which gives them time to eat, make-up tests, receive tutoring and interact with teachers.
