Eric Marshall's fifth-grade students at London Elementary in Walnut Cove, N.C., recently spent three days experiencing some of what it was like during the Civil War, complete with uniforms, tents, flags, packs, mock weapons and "bloody" bandages, as part of their history class. Serving as a lieutenant, Marshall guides students through battlefield-style living at their school campus in an effort to help his students better understand and appreciate history. "It produces a love of history, an appreciation of history, and to me, that is big and it needs to be done," he said.
