Fixed and fixed-indexed annuities offer several features that can make the products attractive to investors amid low interest rates, writes Adam Hyers of Hyers and Associates. Some products offer higher yields in exchange for dropping features such as monthly income or lump-sum death benefits, and others provide for long-term-care assistance, Hyers writes. Indexed annuities with income riders can promise steady income, and newer income riders can be temporarily turned off in order to provide a single lump-sum payout, he writes.
