Officials from Pepperidge Farm, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey and U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts gathered at the company's Denver plant Tuesday to support the Sugar Reform Act. The bill would phase out sugar price supports that food makers say drive the cost of sugar significantly higher than prices paid by rivals in other countries. "This flawed policy is corporate welfare at its worst and hurts not only food manufacturers, but also the families who end up paying higher costs for food made with sugar," Toomey said.
