Patients with inflammatory bowel disease are treated with medication and diet modifications, but probiotics also may provide benefits, registered dietitian Sherry Coleman Collins writes. The limited research in this area so far does not support using probiotics for Crohn's disease, but a growing body of evidence suggests probiotics can help patients with ulcerative colitis. Many types are available in food and supplements.
