United HomeCare Services has sent two notification letters to 13,617 patients who were affected by a data breach caused by the theft of an unencrypted laptop from an employee's car. The theft occurred in January, and the first letter, sent in February, alerted patients to the breach. A second letter in March detailed the information contained in the potentially compromised files, including patient names, birth dates and Social Security numbers, as well as medical and insurance information.
